José Sopa Laranjeira (b. Lisbon, 2002) began his career in the performing arts, training in contemporary dance and ballet. This training included a period at Lisbon's National Conservatory, followed by study at the António Arroio Artistic School's Plastic Realisation of the Spectacle course. His diverse training strengthened his commitment to the conceptual element and exploration of various materials and techniques.
His current artistic pursuits include sculpture, photography and installation, with textiles, metals and wood being the primary media of choice. The starting point is personal and intercultural experiences, social constructions and the relationship with spirituality and/or religion.
Red is a central theme in eis work, linked to protection, power and sacredness. Now investigating the creation of structures that evoke spaces of sanctuary, José continues to work with a sensitive eye and a creative mind.
With a sensitive eye and a creative mind, I am always in search of new forms of expression.
